Our Process & Services
Each poster requires its own specific plan of action. We use these techniques to enhance the orginial beauty of each piece
Bleaching
Through bleaching we can remove water stains and staining from acidic matting or tape. Depending on the stain and dignity of the paper, help with an airbrush to truly get rid of the stain.
Dirt Removal
After years of being stored improperly, posters can develop grime and dirt that dampens once vivid colors. Through a variety of erasing methods we can brighten prints.
Relining
Posters might have been previously linen backed or heat mounted but then experienced damage. We specialize in removing old backing and carefully relining them.
Linen Backing
We specialize in professional linen backing services, a technique that involves mounting posters onto canvas with paste for added support and longevity. This process not only enhances the poster's durability but also helps in flattening out creases and tears, reviving its appearance.
Piece Ins
After years of being hung up by corners or being folded, posters might lose their original pieces. We specialize in replacing the missing pieces with similar papers and then mimicking the printing style with like imagery. Research is done to ensure the piece is as close to the original as possible.
Restoration
Through a variety of water based techniques, we blend fold lines, stains, and missing pieces in hopes of bringing your poster back to it's former glory. At Great Lakes Poster Conservation we strive to provide just the right amount of restoration for each particular piece and client.
